Dr. Chen is currently Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery and Pathology at the University of Southern California (USC). He is highly experienced in the area of translational research aimed at the development of clinical trials and novel therapeutics for malignant brain tumors. Dr. Chen has been a principal investigator on a number of clinical protocols for brain tumors, including a protocol for gene therapy utilizing conventional replication-defective retrovirus vectors encoding the herpes simplex thymidine kinase prodrug activator gene for Glioblastoma Multiforme. He has been involved in an on-going collaboration with Dr. Kasahara to investigate the use of replication-competent retrovirus vectors in experimental models of Glioma for the past nine years. He is the principal investigator of an independent laboratory, and is the head of the Glioma Research Group at USC. Dr. Chen received an MD from the University of California San Francisco, and completed his neurological surgery residency and PhD in pathobiology at the University of Southern California. He obtained his fellowship training in spinal surgery from the Medical College of Wisconsin.
